Jim’s Corner
December 1, 2002
The following teams have paid their dues for TML2002 and may trade:
AL, AV, BC, BU, CS, DY, FC, KY, MV, NA, NB, NY, RR, TG, TR, WW, ZR
I ask that all dues checks ($5) be made out to Mike Ameen and mailed to me by the 25th of November. The dues are used solely to finance the Web Page, but are a matter of faith in the sustenance of the League. My address is 115 Glengerry Court, Cohoes, NY 12047.
The unlimited ERA for TML
2002 will be 4.58. Anyone at 4.58 and over is
limited to 40 starts and 90 appearances.
Quoting Alfred E. Newman, $5, Cheap!
TRADING OPENS
All fines have been assessed and trading is now opened. Only restriction is that both teams must have paid their dues in order for a trade to become finalized. No trade is official until it is reported on the web site. All trades should be reported to me at jpertier@nycap.rr.com
The updated trade and draft information has been forwarded to Scott and will be posted on the Web Site.
DRAFT
Beach City was the winner of the lottery and will be drafting first in the upcoming draft.
The draft will
take place on January 18th, 12 noon Eastern.
Everyone is welcome to attend of course. If you cannot make it, the draft will be conducted using AOL Instant Messenger. We used it for the 1968 draft and it worked like a charm. If you are going to attend (thus far I know that the Connecticut 3 of Jim Schembari, Art Albanese and Mike Mayko will be with us), let me know. Anyone who cannot participate in person or on-line should send in a list.
When the disk arrives from Diamond Mind (should be within 2 weeks), we will publish the official rookie list. I have downloaded the official statistics (via Chris Lentine) and have determined who is eligible (but I want to run them past Rich Goldberg, the official TML quality control for the President.
PLAYOFFS
Here are the matchups for the first round of the playoffs:
MF-FM, NY-GC,
ZR-TG, MV-TR
Buffalo, New York, Zaca and Mudville will host games 1,2,6,7 (if necessary), Playoffs can start right now. I would like to get the first round started ASAP. Playoff limitations are in the constitution on the web page.
The Mudville/Tarpin Ridge series is in progress as we speak. No news in from Kentucky on the Millennium/Fallsburg series. The NY/GC, ZR/TG series will be played CPU to CPU at the draft in January. We will keep you posted during the course of the series.

TML 2001
Player of the Year
In a flat out runaway, Barry Bonds of Troy is the winner for the 3rd time in his TML career. Bonds captured all but one first place vote (and was second on the other one). Bonds outdistanced Jason Giambi of Wild for the honors. For Barry, it is his first since his back to back honors in the early 90's. Complete order of finish (1-10) was 1) Barry Bonds, 2) Jason Giambi, 3) Todd Helton, 4) Rafael Palmeiro, 5) Sammy Sosa, 5) Jim Thome (tie), 7) Ichiro Suzuki, 8) Phil Nevin, 9) Shawn Green, 10) Ryan Klesko.
TML 2001
Pitcher of the Year
Freddy Garcia of Millennium was the winner for the first time. In a strange vote, Garcia was pitcher of the year, but Randy Johnson of New York was the #1 All Star pitcher. Garcia earned his honors by leading the league in wins and ERA. Johnson finished just off the pace in his bid to repeat. Finishing off the top 5 were Tim Hudson, Curt Schilling and Mike Mussina.
Thanks to all for voting.

The pennant races have tightened up and there are 2-two team races going and it will be a fight to the finish. More details to follow in the next Jim's Corner. Season is just about over and it has been exciting.
Pitching has dominated and it has been a change from what we have been used to. The first period stats are almost finalized and more details will follow. Pitching is cool!
Both drafts will be held on December 7th starting at Noon. 1929 will be first up with 1939 following at 3 PM. Both drafts will be held using Instant Messenger. Some big names will be entering TML at the front end of their careers. TML1929 will kick off in January with TML1939 in February. 1929 and 1939 will be our 42nd and 43rd seasons respectively. The career numbers are starting to really build up. Kevin Powers and
Danny Way is still open in 1929 and we are all filled up for 1939.
The career numbers are starting to really build up. Kevin Powers and I will be getting together shortly to update the career numbers and I will have a lifetime leaders report in our next edition.
There has been some discussion regarding parks, active roster sizes and the waiver list. I will address all of these next time (in three weeks). I had asked for a formal proposal on rosters and waivers from Doug and Rocky (who first brought them up). I haven't received one yet, so I will hold off on this proposal until they do.
On ballparks….
We will definitely use the ballparks in 1939 and 1929, so I would ask each manager to choose an existing (retro) ballpark for their teams. All teams must give me their home field declaration during the rookie drafts on December 7.
Here is the formal rule proposal regarding ballparks….
In the current TML,
ballparks will be utilized. A team may
pick any major league ballpark to use as their "home field", under
the following restriction:
Once a ballpark is picked,
it cannot be changed for any reason (other than the demolition of the chosen
park) for 5 seasons. Thus, if New York
picks Dodger Stadium as their home park for TML2002, I cannot move from that
park until TML2007. Any number of teams
can chose the same ballpark as their home field. The "neutral" park can also be selected as a home park.
If the proposal
passes, a team must declare their "home field" no later than one
month before the start of that TML season.
Please vote either "yes" or "no" on this proposal. All votes will be due in by December 15th. A majority will carry the proposal. Please also note that a quorum (13 votes) must vote in order for the vote to hold. All ballots should be sent as a separate eMail to me at jpertier@nycap.rr.com
That's it for now. I will be doing another one of these right after the December 15th ballot. That edition will recap the vote, announce the rookie draft results for 1929 and 1939, finalize 1952 and give the progress of 1968. Additionally, the lifetime leader boards will be updated!
'Til then……
Best/Jim
